Role Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for producing and analysing monthly management accounts, forecasts, and budgets for European profit centres, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and managing accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations. They will conduct variance analysis, review overheads and staff costs, respond to P&L queries, and lead the revamp of management accounts to be audit ready. Additionally, they will support statutory accounts preparation, contribute to process improvements, and manage the accounts payable team, providing leadership and coaching.

Principle Accountabilities:
  • Production of monthly management accounts, forecasts, and annual budgets for the European profit centres.
  • Production and review of contractor margins using accruals and prepayments, ensuring that all revenue is accounted for and billed within agreed timeframes.
  • Review overhead spending and staff costs and identify any items that deviate from expectations.
  • Variance analysis – comparison of actual v forecast and current month v last month to understand the movement in the period.
  • Be able to respond to P&L queries tabled by the Regional Director and Finance Manager along with Country Directors.
  • Responsibility for balance sheet reconciliations for the entities under their remit, using company defined summary templates
  • Managing the integrity of the balance sheet by identifying opportunities and risks and escalating where appropriate.
  • Management Accounts revamp project. Working towards building audit ready management accounts packs. Review current processes and controls and feedback improvement to the Finance Manager.
  • Preparation and delivery of regular reports to senior management.
  • Be involved at key stages of development and play an integral part in the growth of the Airswift accounting team.
  • Statutory Accounts Production – providing TBs, Ledger extracts and Balance Sheet accounts & samples to auditors for testing.
  • Manage, coach and lead the accounts payable team.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA only).
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to multitask with day-to-day workflow.
  • Ability to display resilience and overcome objections.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Work experience in a Management Accounts role (or similar) of 2+ years.
  • Self-motivated and possess the ability to work equally across a team or individually.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work to strict deadlines. Must be able to manage own time efficiently.
  • Effective communicator who is articulate, professional and confident always, both with finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Accountable, driven-attitude, flexible and adaptable characteristics required as an individual.
  • Previous experience working with either one or more accounting systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365. Knowledge of the Tempest payrolling system is beneficial but not required.
  • Robust and thorough knowledge of double entry bookkeeping.
  • Confident in challenging existing processes and holding colleagues to standards set out by Senior Management.
